Another Adulterer in the Senate

Apparently the regular contributors to this group do not feel that the activities of senator John Ensign rise to a level that requires the criticism that would be leveled were he a democrat. So, emulating Faux Noise, I will try to make a fair and balanced contribution. As we know all politicians are hypocrites (as are all of us) but senator Ensign wins the Pulitzer prize in hypocrisy for his dalliance and ethical failures.

While pronging one of his assistants in violation of his marriage vows he is at the same time a Promise Keeper, a leader among the Christian Right and a prominent exponent of family values. He stated that he will not resign his office as senator even though he demanded resignations by president Clinton and senator Craig. He apparently feels the standards applying to him should be lower. He apparently enjoyed his taste of forbidden fruit as he continued tasting for some eight months.

One must conclude that he felt his mistress should be compensated for her services as he promoted her, doubled her salary and hired her 19 year old son as a policy adviser. At least the adulterer had the consideration not to insist that his wife stand by his side during his confession. His interns have the good sense to get out from under his influence. Perhaps the citizens of the State of Nevada will feel the same.

I think there may be some people who resent your inference. I am one of them. Ensign is every bit the scum-bag that anyone else is who "dilly-dallies" outside of marriage including one W. J. Clinton. If you think politics has anything to do with criticism of this reprehensible behavior, your opinion of members of this group, whether some or many is way off base.
