| ping: 20 ms Download speed: 43.59 Mbps Upload speed: 5.77 Mbps
Observations: Suzy's speeds seem awfully low; Henry's blazing speeds are similar to mine; but my "Ping" is waaay lower than both of you.
What in the heck is Ping?

| Sandy, Suzy speed level is the 2nd to the lowest you can get where as mine is the LOWEST you can get with download speed of 0.66Mbps and upload of 0.32Mbps.
I have bad wiring in my apartment building so when I tried getting the 1.5Mbps pkg I found that my download speed only went up to 700-800Mbps which wasn't enough of a difference to pay extra for.
Cable internet is only low around here for 6 months then it goes up to $69 a month which isn't worth it as long as I don't watch movies/videos online.

| Been with Charter even before it was Charter up here in the mountains. Think when I first got broadband they offered 3 Mbps. As the years went by and demands for more speed, to be functional, had to be increased. As one of the old testers, its good to see your still active in a forum. Too bad Web~Nuts closed down. Really served as old timers well. Alt/Discuss turned pretty bad, in my opinion, and I stopped posting there sometime before it and MSNTV2's end. Now, most of us have moved on, some sooner than others.

The lower the ping number the better. Short Definition: Ping is the name of a standard software utility (tool) used to test network connections. It can be used to determine if a remote device (such as Web or game server) can be reached across the network and, if so, the connection's latency. Ping tools are part of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux as well as some routers and game consoles. There are more lengthy definitions of Ping. Just enter Ping in search engine, but sort of boring.

Henry, this might be a better quote I found on a help forum. Ping is a test to see if a host is available across a network, it measures the round trip time for packets sent from you to the other computer. So basically its how long it takes for your computer to talk to another computer. So in that case it is pretty obvious that you want a lower number for better gaming and stuff with someone online. Otherwise you will begin to have "lag" while playing and all the bad things that go along with that. Mike

| TisMike. Great meeting up with you again!! And thanks for the explanation of "Ping." I was kinda concerned that a low number indicated a problem.
I miss the early years of Web-Nuts, but that forum was on life support for the last couple of years. Waiting for a response to a post was like watching paint dry.

| It was a great forum. Think we all learned a lot from each other. Helped prepare all of us to move on and take advantage of the internet etc. We didn't always agree with each other, but there was always mutual respect for one's opinion.
Take care, Mike | |

| Verizon DSL:
Download: 1.90 Mbps
Upload: 0.56 Mbps
This would be funny if Verizon hadn't sent third party reps to our area trying to get us to switch to Verizon Fios which at the time & now does not exist in our area. But I hate Cox Cable so much I'll live w/this until another alternative comes around, or I'll just move.
