I saw the following comment made by a commenter at another forum and thought it was pretty much on target. I did have to blank out a few words.
The unfortunate consequence of having full-time legislators, is that they always want to legislate.
Exactly! The founders envisioned a republic with part time citizen legislatures. Now we have a full time ruling class whose main concern is maintaining power and their overpaid positions.
Inflation? No problem. We'll just give ourselves a pay raise.
Health care? We don't need ObamaCare. We've got a great health care plan that the rubes pay for. And you should see the pension we get even if we only serve one term.
Poverty? We love poor people. That's why we keep them poor so they'll keep voting for us.
Education? We've taken over the educational establishment and turned the schools into nothing more than socialist indoctrination centers. That's why we keep getting voted into office.
We've created a stupid electorate. Not good for the country, but screw the country. It's all about us keeping our overpaid positions. And it's working. See Corinne Brown, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, ex-Speaker Blinky, Chuck "the _______" Shumer, Obama, Hank "Guam is gonna tip over" Johnson, et al.
Democrats are for socialism. So are Republicans but they want to implement it more slowly than the Democrats.
Two things have led to full time legislators: air travel and air-conditioning. Back when the republic was founded, traveling to Washington D.C. was measured in days not hours. It was not as easy to get there as it is now. In the summer, DC was hot and humid. That's why there was a long summer recess. Now, with AC, the a______ can stay in session all summer if need be. Or they can hold their grandstanding hearings.
Here's an idea. Since the commies in the Democrat Party want to put coal and nuke plants out of business to save the environment, why don't we just turn off all the AC in DC during the summer? Think of all the energy we'd save.
BTW, Sheila Jackson Lee is an a______ by accusing Republicans of racism for their stand on the debt limit. The race card. Is there anything it can't be used for?
