D, please. Sorry to hear that the new year is starting with a whimper for you, Angie. Doris was sick before Christmas and decided to stay home rather than go on our annual Christmas trip. This time was New Orleans. Ron got a chance to see your Tide players in practice at the SugarBowl but we had left before the big game. Our youngest daughter was flying in & out of NO so we were still committed to going. Had a wonderful time in a wonderful city. I have been to NO countless times over the years mostly for business but it was only the 2nd for Ron and the first for our daughter. I had hoped to share my love of the place, its history and charm, but I'm afraid she focused mostly on the negatives. Oh well, you can't please everyone! The dog loved it. You should have seen her face after her first evening in the French Quarter. It was a sight to behold! She was agog with all the sounds, sights & smells of the place. Filthy as all get out, she was a little half black with dirt dog by the time we returned to our room. Since she is buff colored by nature she was really something. First thing upon entering the room was to whisk her off to the shower.

Doris is well and only took a couple of days off playing bridge. (I hate to think how many people she infected! Oh well, it is after all where she picked the bug up!) She celebrated Christmas by playing bridge rather than having a more traditional holiday. We all had a quiet new year's in and are back at work madly trying to catch up and prepare the 1st of the year filings (IRS, State, etc.).

I can imagine the pawprints marching across the carpet to get to your room.

The only time I've been to NO was on a Greyhound Bus headed West to live with my newly retired from MC Papa-San. It was 3am, the bus broke down, and we had to switch buses. I didn't see much other than a dirty bus station and a few drunks.

Did you get pictures of your dog, blondie while she was packed with the essence of NO?! Laughing

She wasn't interested in idle chat with the relatives for Christmas, eh? Cigar chomping, swearing whiskey swilling bridge players. . .oh wait. . that's Texas Hold'em players. Bridge players are more refined. .. they don't swear and they drink tea! Smile

What did you eat while there? Any signature dishes? What are the signature dishes, nevermind I'll go look 'em up. Wink

Q, please. No paw prints on the carpet & no pics of the filthy dog. NO is a very dog-friendly city and I found lots of places (hotels, inns & B&Bs) that welcome dogs. Zoe is well used to the vagaries of travel & loves going with us. Yes, she's spoiled but she is well behaved and lodging-friendly, navigating stairs and elevators like a pro.

Ah, the food of NO is amongst my favorite! I DINED on such local favorites as crawfish etouffee, beignets, bananas foster, & rabbit to name a few. Our daughter is a vegetarian but has learned that almost everyone can put together a veggie plate for her while her dad & I continue down our omnivore path. And Zoe, well, she is happy to eat anything that the rest of us don't!

As an ARMY brat that moved just about every year or so, travel is in my blood and thankfully I am married to a man (& have a dog) that share my sense of adventure. Doris is slowing down though so any future trips will have to less physical to permit her to fully enjoy them. If she had come with us, we would have had a very much less physical trip but mostly likely equally enjoyable.

That all sounds so devine! Marine Corps brat here and we stayed put mostly. He was stationed in far off places, and Mum didn't want to go so we stayed topside. Except for the states - CA, NC, VA, DC ( I know it's not a state), and PA!

I'm glad you had loads of fun, blondie. I can understand Doris not wanting to travel far, too. I think you'd be biting your fingernails if she was the type that liked to jump out of planes and/or bungie jumping,eh? Shocked
