G, please.  Dagwood (aka Ron) is very slowly recovering from this latest shoulder surgery (February) - 7 screws this time including one drilled into his humerus to re-attach the bicep muscle.  On the upside, his left shoulder operated on last August looks to be close to being healed. Poor man still finds it hard to get comfortable and sleep through the night.

Thanks for the suggestion about air pillows, Wyz.  Tried but not the answer unfortunately.  He just uses the type of pillow that feels the most comfortable at the moment (air, down, feather, synthetic, bean bag, etc.).  Yes, we have tried them ALL!! 

It is just going to take time to heal.  We had some of the same issue last year with his left shoulder but we knew going into this that this shoulder was much more damaged.  (He has played HS football and then switched to rugby in college & played for more than 40 years and would again if he thought he could do it without hurting himself. He actually broke the right shoulder in a scrum a few years ago.)

The situation is exacerbated this time because of having neither shoulder comfortable to sleep on and when you are a side-sleeper, it just isn't going to be comfortable for a while.  Poor guy switches from the bed to the couch to the recliner to a chair & ottoman throughout the night.  Meanwhile, the dog stays in bed with me and just moves to his side & rests her head on his pillow.  She's no fool! :-D

I am a Side Sleeper. Found out after realizing in the night when awake I was on my Back!

I can well understand what you're going through with his pain, blondie.  We had to search for a cushion for Ka'at since she's more or less bedridden.  She was suffering from sore points ( hipbones) and we finally settled on egg-crate mattress.   She has Multiple Sclerosis and sometimes we run the gamut of aid to find something comfortable for her too.  ( she's a princess-in-a-pea with bedding)

Imagine there are a lot of ball players who suffer from pain like your husbands; Jerry Lewis comes to mind only his pain was from "pratfalls" which isn't the same thing I know. 

Have you tried Accupuncture for the pain?   With all of that switching for comfort he isn't getting much sleep either, that isn't helping the healing situation.
