The person from Medicaid called this morning. She told me not to apply yet. She told me to put the money back in the bank, that Medicaid would want to know what I did with the money and I didn't have any proof, as I still have it. She said they would get him in a nursing home first and then apply for Medicaid, but I will probably have to pay what I have first. So no more money, and no money for a burial or cremation. But at least I won't have to worry about getting in trouble. She said she will talk to the case manager about trying to get him into a nursing home instead of the psych hospital so far away. So now we are in limbo again.
btw, 6 weeks today

I missed something. Who had told you to do something with the money? Get all that in Writing. Do you run a HIS money, MY money settup? Not like you're over stuffed with Assets right?
A vehicle per driver doesn't count. 1 dwelling doesn't count. And I believe it's $2000 in convertible funds.
One of the nursing home issues would safety of other residents, as for years now can't tie them anymore.
I would have thought by now they would have reached their time limit, may be why they're being more active. Sure not getting their ducks in a row.
Say someone has to sign him in to where he goes?

Our money is in a joint account. It was my bright idea to take it out to leave less than 2000 to qualify for Medicaid. She said it wouldn't work that way. Everyone keeps telling me to call a lawyer. I did, but probably won't hear back until tomorrow at the earliest. Don't know what to tell her other than just what's been happening.

I'm glad Henry showed up, he has better answers than I do. ; everything was taken care of by the Hospice SW except I did have to tell her where Ka'at's birth certificate was and where her bank statements were. I was in rehab when the Nursing Home had the Hospice apply for Medi-cal. ( I gave the SW the key to our apt)

She may know exactly what to ask. Large enough area few things are one offs. Well it's not pulling the $ out that is the thing, they ask about cash also in the asset limit.
Expenditures have to have dated receipts, but she shouldn't have said everything she did, as some it has to be done in advance. Lawyer will have suggestions i expect. As household funds will suffer drasticly, ask her if prepaying you lot rent is okay expense.

I called them after work. Talked to the lawyer's receptionist, I guess. She asked me a lot of stuff that I didn't know. I told her the hospital has not really told me much. Kind of why I called them. Wondering what my next steps should be. She said they are only doing telephone conferences and there is not one available for 12 days. Fee is $300 an hour plus a retainer fee if I decide to use them. I can decide after the phone call, I think. I may call around and see if I can find anything sooner.

I would also call, asking for pricing. Type his highest diagnosis into Facebook search bar, maybe find a group to join, someone may have lawyer recommendations.
