I applied for my widow's benefits yesterday by phone. The agent told me I will get $916 a month starting May 3, 2023 (after my 60th birthday. Wish I had thought to ask him if he's sure. That sounds like too much. I'm only supposed to get 71 1/2 % of my late husband's benefits until I get older. I'll have to look it up again. I mean I would like to get that much, but don't expect it. They are closed on the weekend. I emailed them this morning. I don't expect to hear back till Monday at the earliest. Also the earliest I can call and ask and then it's a whole lot of waiting on hold. I thought I was never going to get through to get an appointment in the first place. My late husband was receiving $1074/ month for his SSDI. Don't think that has anything to do with it. I had to repay the last payment he received.

My ssi is $914 now so for your state that may be right. If you can collect a lower amount of Soc Sec and then get SSI i don't know.

I don't expect to get SSI. Just my widow's benefits. My retirement benefits are lower(not enough to live on) as I work part-time. Guess I'll have to wait and see. Besides, I'll know in May. That's only three months away.
All of this also affects food stamps. When my late husband was still alive and we were getting his SSDI, we only got $15 a month in food stamps.

Well, I called Social Security today, was on hold almost an hour. I told her the agent said I would get $916 a month starting May 3. But on their website, it says I only get 71 1/2%, I asked her if that was 71 1/2% of $916 or is the $916 a percentage of another amount? She did not know and told me I'm not even in the system yet. However, all of that is on my social security account page. I also emailed them and asked the question on the website. No one knows. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. So frustrating!
